Privacy Statement

Dr Michelle Sheté recognises that your personal information is extremely important to you and that you are concerned with its collection, use and disclosure. Dr Sheté operates as a sole trader and is not an APP entity, but she is committed to protecting the privacy of her clients as outlined by the Australian Privacy Principles, set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Ownership of your Documents

When you submit documents or original text to Dr Sheté, you will retain full ownership and intellectual property rights (unless otherwise stated), and your work will not be intentionally shared with third parties for any reasons that are unnecessary. However, in some instances your information will need to be shared with third parties (see below).

When is your Personal Information Collected?

Generally, your personal information will be collected directly from you when you voluntarily submit an enquiry form; pay for tutoring, editing or writing services and/or voluntarily send personal information/text/documents to Dr Sheté.You have no obligation to provide any personal information; however, if you choose not to do so, it may not be possible to provide you with the services that you request.

What Information is Collected and Stored?

The kind of personal information collected and stored by Dr Sheté may include:

  • client names
  • client telephone number(s)
  • client e-mail address (es)
  • client order information (including documents for editing or assessing)
  • client personal details concerning the progress of learning and/or personal opinions
  • client personal information contained in documents (including hard copy documents and electronic documents such as emails, photographs or videos) sent to Dr Sheté in relation to work requests.

Additional Personal Information

In addition, other personal information may be collected by third parties associated with maintaining the functionality of Dr Sheté’s website. This information may include:

  • relevant payment or transaction information (bank account details, address, date of birth)
  • your Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, server address, domain name, information on your browsing activity when visiting this website and other information as explained in other privacy policy statements belonging to those third parties. Please see below in relation to third parties.

Why would your Personal Information be Shared?

Like other sole traders and larger companies, Dr Sheté collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information for a number of purposes connected with business operations. These include:

  • providing you with services or goods as requested (editing, tutoring, writing, electronic documents and such).
  • dealing with requests, enquiries or complaints and other client-care related activities.
  • payment processing.
  • marketing, developing and improving services.
  • carrying out certain checks (for example, for fraud or theft prevention processes).
  • other purposes related to those described above which would be reasonably expected by you.

 Which Third Parties may receive your Personal Information?

Dr Sheté may need to disclose or receive personal information or documents about you, including to/from:

  • organisations that provide services to her in connection with business, including payment processing, archival, data storage, hosting, research, mail and delivery, installation, distribution, logistics, marketing, auditing, financial and legal advisory, banking, debt collection, security or technical services and the operation of this website.
  • law enforcement agencies or governmental regulatory bodies to assist in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of criminal activities.
  • other third parties where you have specifically consented to the disclosure of information to these third parties.
  • companies or organisations with whom Dr Sheté has a business relationship (where you work for, or otherwise represent, such an organisation).

Some Specific Third Parties

  • Dr Sheté relies on third parties such as PayPal for the security of financial transactions administered through this website. Paypal’s Privacy Policy states that Paypal “confirms their customers’ identities under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing laws” and is “committed to full compliance with all AML laws.” PayPal also states that they “maintain technical, physical, and administrative security measures designed to provide reasonable protection for your Personal Data against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, and alteration.  The security measures include firewalls, data encryption, physical access controls to [their] data centers, and information access authorization controls.” You may read the privacy policy of PayPal.
  • Paypal also states “While we are dedicated to securing our systems and Services, you are responsible for securing and maintaining the privacy of your password(s) and Account/profile registration information and verifying that the Personal Data we maintain about you is accurate and current”.
  • Dr Sheté also relies upon third parties such as WordPress.com for the administration of this website. WordPress.com is administered by Automattic. Their privacy policy is set out clearly. You may read Automattic privacy policy.
  • WordPress.com states that their organisation “encrypts all WordPress.com sites” and “redirects all insecure HTTP requests to the secure HTTPS version.” WordPress.com states that they “run firewalls” and have “processes in place to alert [them] about unauthorized attempts to access WordPress.com accounts”. WordPress.com states that they secure their websites “using SSL certificate” under the common name “automattic.com” from “Let’s Encrypt Certificate Authority”.
  • WordPress.com also states: “No way of transmitting data over the Internet and no method of electronic storage is perfectly secure. We can’t guarantee absolute security of your site or account — no one can.”
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you protect your passwords and all of your own accounts. Dr Sheté cannot guarantee absolute security of your data when it is transmitted over the internet, particularly through email, as the internet is not a 100% secure environment.
  • Dr Sheté’s website may contain links/ plug-ins to other sites. Dr Sheté is not responsible for the content of, or the privacy practices or policies of, those sites.

How is your Personal Information Stored?

Dr Sheté takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information that she holds is stored in a secure environment protected from misuse, interference and loss and any unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Your personal information is held in a number of ways, including:

  • being stored in electronic format or as hard copy and secured at private premises.
  • being stored on information technology systems and servers operated by third parties who provide services in connection with Dr Sheté’s business and who are responsible for keeping their own systems and servers secure.
  • Dr Sheté cannot guarantee security of information being stored by third parties.

Your information may be stored by third parties at various times including (but not limited to) when:

  • you provide online feedback
  • you browse this website
  • you publicly comment about these services on social media sites.

How can you Access or Update your Stored Personal Information?

You may request Dr Sheté to correct the personal information that she holds about you. If you do so and she is satisfied that the information is inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, she will take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to correct your personal information.

  • Private information considered unnecessary for immediate business purposes will be either destroyed or kept securely.

Marketing

  • Dr Sheté stores email addresses so that past and current clients can receive information relating to her services.
  • Your personal information may be used to promote and market Dr Sheté’s products and services to you, including through methods such as email and SMS. You may opt-out of receiving this communication by sending an email or written request to Dr Sheté.

Concerns or Complaints

If you are concerned about the way Dr Sheté collects, holds, uses or discloses your personal information, please send written details of your complaint via email (once your services have begun).

After receiving any complaint, Dr Sheté will consider if she needs any further information from you to properly follow up the complaint and may request such information from you. She will then:

  • open discussions with relevant third parties involved in the collection, holding, use or disclosure of your personal information which is the subject of your complaint and
  • endeavour to notify you of the results of the investigation of your complaint within 30 days of receiving your complaint. However, if your complaint involves complex matters or requires extensive investigation and consultation, it may not be possible to reply within that period.
  • If she believes that her collection, holding, use or disclosure of your personal information was in breach of the Australian Privacy Principles, she will take steps to remedy the breach as soon as reasonably practicable.
  • If you are not satisfied with the response to your complaint you are entitled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
